Tips To Avoid Bed Bugs While Traveling

Pittsburgh residents have thought about traveling the world. Doing so is relaxing and eye-opening. However, it is pertinent to make sure that your trip doesn’t transform into a full-blown nightmare. The good news is that there are ways to avoid issues when traveling. Consumers must go above and beyond to ensure that they’re not staying at a bedbug-infested motel. Finding out in advance and staying away from bedbugs can help you minimize the risks. Below, you’ll find tips for avoiding bedbugs when traveling.

Searching The Room

You’re likely going to spend a few nights at a motel. If so, you need to carefully search the room to ensure it doesn’t have bedbugs. By searching the room, you’ll find out whether the room is infested with bedbugs. If the room has bedbugs, you don’t want to spend the night there. Doing so will likely lead to a bedbug infestation at home. Start by searching the bed and mattress. Look at it carefully. Do you see any little black bugs? Do you see any black or red stains? It could be bedbugs.

Look Closer

Next, you’ll want to go in for a closer look. Doing so will prove to be beneficial. Besides looking at the mattress, you need to look closer. Remove the sheets and covers so you can go in for a closer inspection. You may need to check both sides of the mattress and covers. Bedbugs could be hiding on the box spring too. Be sure to check it.

Use The Luggage Rage

Next, you’ll want to use the luggage rack to avoid problems. You’ll find that this is more important than you could ever imagine. If you throw your luggage on the ground, bedbugs will climb into the luggage easily. That could create problems when you return home. Prevent this from happening by taking advantage of the luggage rack. Place it in the middle of the room and away from walls. Doing so will prevent bedbugs from entering your luggage and taking them home with you.

Returning Home

When you return home, you’ll need to carefully examine your belongings. Bedbugs could be hiding in your luggage and clothes. If they are, you’ll bring them in with you. You have to avoid this problem by carefully checking your luggage before bringing it inside. It is a good idea to go through your luggage in an outside room. For instance, you should use a utility room or garage.

Use The Dryer

Finally, you’ll want to use your dryer to wipe out the bedbugs hiding in your clothes. If you have bedbugs on your clothes, you can kill them by using your dryer. Throw the clothes into your dryer and turn it on. Be sure to use the hottest setting. Let the clothes dry for 15 minutes to eliminate them. Just remember that bedbugs may still live in your home. If this is the case, you’ll need to hire an exterminator to get rid of them. To take care of the problem swiftly, contact our office. We’re eager to help.
